Six of our Year 10 and 11 learners were chosen to represent SAFC at the above competition, held at Wembley Stadium. Accompanied by Miss Booth and Miss Wardle, the girls had a long weekend in the capital, and were also lucky enough to watch the England Ladies’ team play the German Ladies, and despite seeing England lose 3 - 0 they had a fantastic day.

In the competition itself, which saw 31 teams from across the country taking part, SAFC beat Crystal Palace 3 - 0, defeated Birmingham and Exeter 4 - 0 and 6 - 3 respectively, and drew 3 - 3 with Tottenham Hotspur. This put SAFC level on points with Tottenham, and the resulting penalty shootout saw Erika Warren make two great saves to see SAFC through to the quarter finals.

Here, SAFC played Manchester City, and great goals from Brittany and Poppy resulted in a 4 - 0 scoreline, which was not as comfortable as it may look on paper as Chantelle in goal pulled off several tremendous saves.

Facing Crawley Town in the semi-finals, the game was goalless at full time and sadly SAFC lost the resulting penalty shootout. Crawley went on to win the competition, whilst SAFC finished in third place after defeating Bristol City 3 - 0 in their final match.

I’m sure you will agree that this was a wonderful performance by all involved, who can feel very proud of themselves.
